Chiara Consonni (UAE Team ADQ) has won Stage 2 of the Giro d’Italia Women, the 110km long Sirmione-Volta Mantovana. Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx – Protime) and Elisa Balsamo (Lidl – Trek) finished second and third respectively.
Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl – Trek) retains the Maglia Rosa.
Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Chiara Consonni said: “”It was a very complicated victory because the breakaway gave us a hard time. Fortunately we had seen the finish on the first passage, and I realised that to win I had to be as far ahead as possible in the last kilometre. It was a great duel with Lotte Kopecky, winning it was amazing”.
