Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl – Trek) has won Stage 1 of the Giro d’Italia Women, the 15.7km long Brescia-Brescia Tudor ITT becoming the first Maglia Rosa of the race.
Grace Brown (FDJ-Suez) and Brodie Champan (Lidl – Trek) finished second and third respectively.
Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and Maglia Rosa Elisa Longo Borghini said: “It’s the best way to start the Giro, as I came to with a lot of ambitions and a very strong team to support me. Last year’s Corsa Rosa didn’t go my way, because of a crash, so I wanted to prove that I feel good from the start. The Maglia Rosa is a dream before being a goal and to start like this is really great“.
